Hey everyone! Here is a rundown of what will happen on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week…
Tuesday….Christmas concert at 1:30 and 7:00 pm. Important to note that the doors open at 1:00 pm and 6:30 pm. We are asking guests to choose to attend one performance, and if they can, the afternoon performance. For the evening performance parents are asked to drop off and pick up their children in their classrooms. I will have some game stations set up to keep them busy until it is show time! We will be singing 1 song…then will be back out for the finale. We will be center on the risers for our song…then will be standing just to the right of center for the finale if you are sitting facing the stage.
Wednesday…Wear your PJs and bring a dry snack for yourself if you wish for a movie afternoon in the gym.
Stay warm this weekend:)
Ps…we are the highlighted class in the newsletter this month…check it out:)
There is a hot lunch order form coming home today…due back Wed…Pizza lunch on Fri.
We will be decorating gingerbread men with our care buddies on Wednesday. I will supply the icing and gingerbread men. Please send a small amount of candy with your child for them to decorate 1 gingerbread man.
We won’t be wearing any fancy hats or costumes for the Christmas concert. Please dress your child in whatever dressy clothing that you see fit. A chance to wear those Christmas clothes an extra day is always nice. The kids have been working SO hard on their song. You are going to LOVE it!
Please keep sending non-perishable food items for the Dalmeny Christmas hampers if you haven’t done so already.
That’s all for now!
Here is what we have been up to in 2 “O” lately…
Reader’s Workshop: I have spent the last 2 Mondays at a workshop learning some new ideas about how to support readers in the classroom to bolster our Reader’s Workshop. The kids are growing every day in their reading and are still keeping track of their thinking in their reader’s notebooks. We are focusing on making connections right now to help us better understand our books. I am busy creating a new at home reading log that will assist you in helping your child to talk about their books. Understanding what we are reading is so important.
Writer’s Workshop: Wow have these guys been writing their little hearts out! They are writing short stories and personal narratives while paying close attention to proper mechanics. We have begun to talk about the editing process and they are very excited.
Math: We have just wrapped up our numbers to 100 unit and will begin geometry tomorrow!
Science/Social: The kids have completed some very cool posters about motion and position through researching a topic of their choice. They were responsible for reading books for information that related to our topic and for representing their learning through writing. I am so proud of them!
Throughout December we will be learning about the diversity of cultural groups within our community. We will begin talking about the words, tradition, culture and diversity and what they mean. Next we will do some deep thinking about what traditions and cultures are represented in our own lives. I will be posting a more detailed explanation of what the final project will look like once we have a chance to discuss it together.
Phys Ed/Health: Safety and Cooperation is our focus this month and reflecting those concepts in the gym, classroom and recess.
That’s all for now!
