Added January 9, 2017:
Welcome back to a new curling year! I just wanted to touch base with you all, as we are starting curling practices tomorrow! Time has just gotten away from me as I had hoped to get this info out to you sooner, but here we are at the end of November already!
We have some new curlers who are joining the teams this year; this is so great to see!
Mrs. Fisher is also helping out with Curling this year; she is managing the seniors primarily but will also be working with the Jrs too; it’s great to have her and her expertise! She loves the game and has a wealth of knowledge!
We hope to run practices on Tuesday and/or Thursday afternoons after school…likely one a week before Christmas for the Jr’s and twice a week after or before games or districts. Between Mrs. Fisher and I, I’m sure we can make two practices a week work out with our schedules. Practices are held at Radisson Curling rink, usually from 3:30 – 4:45. We do have to be off the ice by 5pm. That means we will be back at the school usually no later than 5pm.
Driving: we will potentially always need parent drivers. Please ensure you have your forms filled out with Ange at the office, if you are planning on taking students with you. Parents do not need to stay at practice but are more than welcome to.
Please make sure your student has a ride home, if they are to be dropped off at the school when we come back from curling. The school will generally not be opened, so please make arrangements with your student before the end of the day as to what they will do to get home.
What to wear/bring: We had a brief meeting today and talked about the importance of warmth! Make sure students bring mitts/gloves, a clean pair of indoor shoes (or curling shoes if you have them) and dress in comfortable clothing. There will be a lot of stretching involved! If you have a broom and slider, bring that as well. There are brooms and sliders to use at the rink if your child does not have one. It’s also a good idea to bring a snack for after school.
Games: The seniors are heading to a funspiel next month but unfortunately the jr’s are too young to go yet. I hope to have a game setup before Christmas, and will let you know when we have a schedule so we are all on the same page. I was at a youth curling coach seminar this past weekend and made some contacts with curling coaches from other schools and many are eager to set up some games!
That’s all I can think of for now. Please let Mrs. Fisher or myself know if you have any questions at all. We are eagerly looking forward to another fun season!
