Parents, students, and community members,
The second month of school is already here, as are the first signs of winter. It is crazy how fast time flies, and I am certainly learning a lot about our school, staff, and students. I hope that you have all enjoyed a smooth start to the school year, and I look forward to catching up with many of you at our first three-way conferences on October 27!
October is an exciting time for our school. A successful cross country season, spearheaded by Mrs. Sutherland and Mr. Dunlop, comes to a close on October 5 at our division meet in Delisle. Our junior boys’ and junior girls’ volleyball teams have shown incredible growth and will continue to shine until their season ends at the end of the month. We recently sent our grade 5/6 class to Dalmeny for the Wild West soccer tournament, had picture day on Monday, and have a variety of spirit days coming up. Our staff and students seem to be enjoying a school environment that is filled with events and opportunities!
The main focus of all that we do in Borden is on student learning and student engagement. I am proud of the work that our staff do on a daily basis to provide an exceptional learning environment for our students, and even more proud of their desire to continuously grow and improve. Over the next few weeks, our staff will participate in a wide variety of professional development opportunities. We will re-launch FreshGrade this month in our school to provide staff with an opportunity to capture and display evidence of student growth. Our teachers have signed up for a wide array of PD courses in and out of our division, including the SUM mathematics conference and Creating Learning Cultures conference. We are very lucky to be part of an educational environment where teachers are so dedicated to setting and achieving exciting professional goals.
Our first SCC meeting was on September 25 and it was great to see a mix of committee members, staff, and community members come together to help come up with ways to continuously improve our school. The meeting has already led us to schedule our upcoming “Book & a Bagel” morning, look into sending student delegates to the 2017 Saskatchewan Student Leadership Conference, start coordinating upcoming holiday activities, and investigate potential improvements to our school facilities. I encourage any parents who would like to get more involved in school planning and activities to join us at our next meeting on October 20 at 5:30pm.
As usual, please do not hesitate to contact the school with any questions or feedback that you might have. I also encourage all parents and community members to become frequent visitors of the school website in order to stay updated about all of the great things that are happening at Borden School. Have a great October!
