We have 5 days of learning together this week. Our classroom theme we are working on for the next month is “Relationships”. We will be studying this in Health as well as looking at picture books related to Relationships. We will continue to use our strategy of inferring to make sense of pictures and what they might mean to each of us. In Math we are learning about place value, and we are able to build 4 digit numbers and order them form least to greatest. It’s great to work in groups and share our learnings with one other. Today we were able to brainstorm 42 words(as a class) working on the Word Family Long I sound with the pattern i_e. We are awesome at creating our word families and we work together as a family in 3P! Sending and receiving in Gym has been our focus for the week and we are also learning about the qualities of good sportsmanship. Structures, and continents will be our areas of study in Science and Social Studies.

We have a short week, but a busy one! Today we had Music, and we were able to finish our corrections on our Patterns assessment in Math.We enjoyed Mrs. Dumont coming in to our classroom and modelling the reading strategy of “inferring”.We were amazing when we were inferring about what was going to happen next in our books. A lot of questions, wonders, and inferences were generated. Mrs. Priel really enjoyed the conversations that were taking place when we got to “turn and talk” and share our inferences. We started a new unit in Art, an artist study. We brainstormed a title for a piece of art work that was placed in a museum. The titles the students came up with were amazing. Wednesday is Picture Day and Friday is our Bucket Filing Friday. Reading Logs will be sent home on Thursday as well as the Math assessments on Patterns.
Looking ahead at our week! Today we had a great day of self reflection. The students completed several self- assessments in regards to their learning behaviors, as well as reflecting on their school community entitled, All About Me At School. They also completed their selfie profiles for their portfolios. Today we listened to a story, Shi-Shi-Etko ,and shared our thoughts during the reading of the book. The ideas that were generated were amazing. We indeed have great thinkers in this class.
Today we were able to enjoy our new pods. New pod-mates, new places to sit in the classroom, and a new classroom formation with groups that can all work together to achieve the same goal.
We have Parent Student Teacher Interviews on Tuesday and Thursday this week . Please refer to the note I sent home with your child. It is very important that your child is present for the interviews as their learning will be our topic of conversation. Thank-you to everyone that has signed up. I`m looking forward to seeing you at interviews.
Math test on Patterns will be on Thursday, Oct.4th. The students have been improving on their pattern language as well as being able to display their own patterns and explain them in their own words.
We are looking forward to watching the grade 8`s share their drama production with us tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct.2nd.We will have an early recess, and then enjoy the entertainment provided by the Grade 8`s.
We have been busy in 3P these last two days learning about residential schools. All students will be given a chance to share their wonderings, questions, thoughts, connections before our readings in relation to two books; WHEN I WAS EIGHT, and SHI-SHI- ETKO. These books are closely connected with Orange Shirt Day. In Math, we learned about input/output machines with patterns and the lesson was very visual and interactive with great participation from the class. We learned about short and long vowel sounds today in our Word Study. Our daily routines are very important to us. In Science we learned all about the characteristics of Structures and we were able to share our learnings with a partner. We were very active in Gym today, focusing on team work in soccer, and aiming to hit a target in groups. The teams were very eager and energetic in our cone soccer ball activity. It was great to see the wonderful “buckets” decorated by each student in our classroom family. They are all very unique and represent characteristics of whom they are. We are a “BUCKET FILLING” classroom, and once again our bucket will be filled with a bucket filling message from one of our classmates on Friday.We will be creating a clothesline of ORANGE T-SHIRTS(cut outs) and writing a message about “All Children Matter”. Orange Short Day is Friday, Sept.28th.
I have created an online account with Scholastic, so please place your book orders for your child online. There are specific instructions on the book order forms. We also had library today, and students were able to take out a maximum of three books.
