 We Day Returns!

Did you know that kids of all ages around the world are doing service projects both locally and abroad to help make a difference in how people experience life? The projects are centred around healthy, fresh, safe drinking water, education, and opportunity. All of the things that we already have, here in Dalmeny, Sk.
Last year, our We Day Team worked within our school to help make it even more awesome. We Day participants helped in little ways to ensure our student body had options for healthy and diverse snacks throughout parts of the school year. A group that eats together, comes closer in many ways.
We certainly enjoyed our We Day experience at the Sasktel Center and can’t wait to try earning our way there again this year! The energy in the stadium was palpable!
This year’s initial project will be A Gift of Warmth where we will reach outside of our little community and share with others. We will be organizing a Winter Clothing Drive where students and families can donate their clean and gently used but out-grown or extra mitts, toques, winter coats, boots, and scarves. We will also accept warm sweaters and ski pants in good condition.
The We Day Team will sort and organize the donations according to size and deliver them to a partner school in Saskatoon. Our partner school will be one where many students and their families cannot afford or gain access to warm winter clothing for a variety of reasons. The school may also have new immigrant families with whom we can share these donations and make their Canadian welcome just a little more personal. We look forward to cementing our partnership and announcing the name of our partner school soon!
How can you get involved?
The DHS We Day Team is currently accepting members for the 2016-17 school year. Your teacher supervisors: Ms. Green and Mrs. Pepper-Martens will be holding a series of informational lunch meetings. Come on out and learn about how YOU can be involved and make a difference.
As parents and community members you can be involved too! We would love a community LIAISON who can promote our club within the township of Dalmeny and surrounding area to give our community a chance to participate and make a difference in this world of ours. Does this sound like YOU? If it does email Cary.pepper-martens@spiritsd.ca to indicate your interest and commitment.
If you want to help but only have a little time, please consider donating items from your home to our A Gift of Warmth campaign and let’s show these high school kids how a few can make a HUGE difference!

Donations can be dropped off at the school commencing October 3, 2016.

Let’s make this year a We Year to remember, DHS!!!
