Closure, Severe Weather, and Student Transportation

The Director of Education, or designate, is authorized to dismiss students, discontinue transportation services, and/or close school in emergency situations.

Environment Canada Prince Albert temperatures are used as a guide in determining if school buses should run.  Buses are not to run if the combined temperature/wind chill factors result in a reading of -40 degrees or below at 6:00 a.m.

The Conveyance Manager will notify the following radio stations if school buses are not running.

  • FM HOT 93
  • FM C 95
  • AM CJWW 600
  • AM NTR 650

In stormy conditions, bus drivers will use their discretion regarding local weather and road conditions when deciding whether or not to run.  Buses are not to operate if weather conditions such as freezing rain, dense fog, heavy rain, or severe dust storms impair visiblity or otherwise cause dangerous travel conditions.  Bus drivers are to decide whether or not to run by no later than 30 minutes before the first scheduled pick up and by no later than 1 hour prior to the scheduled afternoon dismissal.

School is usually closed to students only for reasons such as health and safety.  As long as a school remains open, parents are welcome to transport their children to the school at anytime during the day.
