Information on Classroom Placements for the 2018-2019 School Year

Each May and June, Valley Manor School staff engage in an exhaustive process of creating class lists for the following school year. Our goal is to place students in a setting that is appropriate for each child individually and for the group as a whole.  The final placement of a child is a school-based decision that is made using, for example, some of the following criteria:

Academic needs

Social needs (individual and group)

Academic diversity of the group

Special needs

Additional Classroom assistance (EA Support)

Independence / dependence

Role models

Positive / negative student relationships

Balance of males to females

Consultation with other staff involved (resource teacher, consultants, etc.)

Receiving teachers

Due to the complexities of placing students in classes,  these decisions are considered complete and final by the time report cards go home.  Students will be made aware of who their homeroom teacher is when they receive their June report card on June 27th.

Thursday, June 21st-Daily Announcements

Today is National Indigenous People’s Day so we would like to recognize that we are on Treaty 6 Territory, the traditional lands of the Cree, Dene, Nakota, Saulteaux, and Ojibwe, and the homeland of the Métis.

Today is also the first official day of Summer which means it is the longest day of the year!

1.Congratulation to the 75 Grade 4 to 6 students and our 4 staff (Mrs. Kozak, Mrs. Bollinger, Mr. Gartner and Mr. Cox) for braving the heat and who participated in the first ever Tri-V (Valley, Venture, Vista) Track and Field Meet at Venture Heights School yesterday.  It was a great day of competition and having fun.  Congratulations to Grady S-R (5) and Ezekiel T. (6) for being the top athletes in their age group.  The final team results were: Third Place-Lake Vista with an average of 1.95 points per student, Second Place-Valley Manor with an average of 2.11 points per student and First-Venture Heights with an average of 2.81 points per student.

2. School Jerseys- Yesterday’s track people, please hand in your school jersey today if you have it.  If you do not have it, please bring it tomorrow.  You can drop it off in Mr. Cox’s office.  Please be on the lookout for jerseys as you start to clean up your classroom, lockers, and backpacks next week!  Thank you!

3. Lost and Found- 5 days to look for lost items at the rack or grey bin.  All unclaimed items will be donated to charity this summer!

Happy Birthday: Karys K. (6) and Katie R. (3)
