Week 4 – Music Monday Anthem Search

Do you have any young musicians who like to write music?  See this message below from the Canadian Music Educators’ Association for a competition to find the 2015 Music Monday Anthem.  Music Monday takes place every year on the first Monday in May to draw attention to and celebrate music education across Canada.

Music Monday
Anthem Search

The Music Monday Anthem Search, a national songwriting competition created to inspire and engage music makers of all backgrounds is now accepting submissions. The competition is inviting aspiring songwriters from across the country to enter original compositions for the chance to be chosen as the next Music Monday Anthem. The composer of the winning submission will win $10,000 worth of musical equipment generously provided by Yamaha Canada Music Ltd.
The Coalition for Music Education in Canada is issuing an open call for the next Music Monday anthem which will serve as a rally cry for music education in our schools. On the first Monday of May, hundreds of thousands of participants will join together to sing and play this Music Monday Anthem, performing it in a national showcase, and across the country in schools, public parks, and communities to celebrate the galvanizing power of music. The next Music Monday anthem will unite our nation’s voices and inspire millions to sing out about the importance of music in our schools and communities.

Celebrating 10 years, Music Monday has engaged millions of voices over the past decade from coast to coast to coast. Previous Music Monday songwriters include Serena Ryder, DALA, Chris Tait, Luke Doucet, and most recently, a collaboration between retired Cmdr. Chris Hadfield (performed in space) and Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies. For the first time in Music Monday history, the call is being extended to the artistic community to inspire the nation through writing the next Anthem.

Music Monday Anthem Search is an open call to both amateur and professional songwriters, entrants can submit their songs online www.musicmonday.ca/anthemsearch. A panel of music industry professionals, music educators, and previous Music Monday songwriters will determine the Grand Prize winner. Eligibility, full contest rules and regulations, as well as a list of judges are now available on the Music Monday website (www.musicmonday.ca/anthemsearch). The contest is being supported by SOCAN and Yamaha Canada Music Ltd.
