Resonate 2017

Larry Livingston is a distinguished conductor, educator, and administrator, and a dynamic, inspiring motivational speaker. The founding Music Director of the Illinois Chamber Orchestra, Mr. Livingston has appeared with the Houston Symphony, in the Los Angeles Philharmonic Green Umbrella Series, at the Festival de Musique in Evian, France, with the Stockholm Wind Orchestra, and with the Leopoldinum Chamber, Chopin Academy, and Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestras in Poland. He has been Music Director for the Pan Pacific Festivals in Sydney, appeared in Yamaha, International concerts in Tokyo, and presented at the International Jazz Festival in Rome. From 1997 to 2001, Mr. Livingston regularly toured Germany and Slovakia with the Internationale Junge Orchesterakademie. The performances and subsequent recordings were “the most successful in this organization’s history,” according to its director. In 2001, he served on the jury for the renowned Besancon (France) International Conducting Competition. In the last decade, he has conducted extensively in Eastern Europe, and particularly throughout Poland, attracting consistent critical acclaim. Reviews reported “long, unending applause, enthusiastic cheers, like at a rock concert, standing ovation.”

New to Resonate 2017 is string musician, Evan Friesen.  Evan is a violinist for the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, but also plays guitar, banjo, and, mandolin in a punk band.  Most recently Evan finished his internship with PSSD.  We are thrilled to be working with Evan again in this new way.  Look for Evan’s sessions on All Things Strings.

Returning for Resonate 2017 is Hip Hop artist, InfoRed (aka Brad Bellegarde).  InfoRed will be coming from Regina, Sk and to learn more you can check him out at: http://music.cbc.ca/#!/artists/InfoRed.  InfoRed will be here for both Resonate For Teachers and Resonate For Students.  Brad will be here for the teachers day on April 4th and to work with students on April 5-7th.

Returning for Resonate 2017 is Chris Merk.  Merk, also known as Merky Waters, is a Regina-based Hip-Hop producer, DJ, beat boxer and educator. Musical Instrument Building

Have some fun inventing and building whoville-style musical instruments.  This session will connect understandings around volume, length, shape, and materials to their impact on musical pitch, tone, and texture.  Using found objects and various building materials, teachers can get creative in this is a hands-on sound exploration activity that is fun and easy to do with students of any grade level.

No prior musical background required.

Grab a coffee and sit down with our guest artists for a conversation about the music industry, career paths, and what we can do in education to support our students’ interests in these fields.

Professional Networking

During this time, teachers can get together with other teachers to network, share ideas, ask questions, and focus on learning and growing from each other.
