Grade 9

The Grade 9’s have been busy enjoying the lovely weather May has had to offer. Many of the students are taking part in track and field this year and a big congratulations is in order for the students that took part in the provincial winning drama program this year! They have been focusing on poetry in ELA class and are working to create their own collections. Social has them learning about the wealth, roles and the social structure of ancient civilizations. Mr. Herman is teaching the students about fractals in math class and the students are enthused by the math without numbers! Reproduction is the topic in Science class with Mrs. Prakash and they are honing their archery skills in PE with Mr. Cory. They are continuing to learn about welding and small engines in IA with Mr. Tyndall and they are just wrapping up the breakfast unit in Home Ec. with Mrs. Wilson. They have been working with musicals in Art class and have focused on Wizard of Oz, and Oliver and Company. The students have also been excited about the fast approaching annual camping trip and have been busy in their planning. That’s all for the Grade 9’s in the month of May!

Grade 9

February has been a busy month for the Grade 9 students here in Hanley. Many of the students have been taking part in extracurricular activities such as basketball, curling, and drama. In ELA, the Grade 9’s are looking into Love, Loyalty, and Relationships and are particularly looking at William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The students have continued to look into Ancient Civilizations in Social class, and are currently working to depict a battle between two ancient warriors. Math has the students studying Polynomials and they are looking into Music in Art class. The students have switched from I.A. to Home Ec. and vice versa. In I.A., the students are looking at the theory behind welding and in Home Ec., they are learning all about kitchen safety and measurement conversions. In Gym, the students have been playing a variety of games. That’s it for February. Enjoy the break!

Grade 9

The Grade 9 class has continued to be busy throughout the month November. They have wrapped up their Challenges of Life unit in English and have made the transition into Norse and Indigenous Myths, where they are currently working to build their own unique mythological worlds. In Social Studies, they have just finished up Culture and Multiculturalism and will be moving on to Canada’s Land and History after the long weekend. Math has the students learning all about Rational Numbers and Science has them focused on Elements and Atoms. They are at the transition point in IA, where they switch between Welding and Small Engines and they are working their way through a Dairy Unit in Home Ec. They have been hard at work on their Remembrance Day posters in Art class and are about to start a Basketball Unit in Phys. Ed. That’s all for the Grade 9 class and the month of November!

Grade 9

The Grade 9 class has continued to be busy throughout the month of October. In ELA they have just completed writing and acting out their own scripts and have now started on speeches. In Social, they have been researching the effects of the European settlers on the FNMI people of Canada and are now moving onto constructing their own worldviews. Career Ed. has the class learning about various career paths through university and technical institutes. The students have just finished up a volleyball unit in Phys. Ed. and will soon begin fitness testing. Math is currently all about powers and numbers. The students continue to enjoy shop class where they have been busy with welding and small engines. The other half of the class has just started an egg and breakfast unit in Home Ec. That’s it for the month of October in the Grade 9 class of Hanley Composite School!

Grade 9

The Grade 9 class has continued to work hard for the month of April. They have been busy learning about William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in English class and have continued to study ancient civilizations in Social Studies. In Math, they have been working with symmetry and rotations. They have been enthusiastic towards badminton in Phys. Ed. class and many of the students are playing on the badminton team. They have been busy cooking in Home Ec. and have just switched sections in I.A., where they are learning about small engines and how to weld. They have spent the last few weeks studying musicals in Art class and have specifically looked into The Lion King and The Wizard of Oz.

Grade 9

The Grade 9 class has been extremely busy. They have continued to learn about Ancient Civilizations in Social Studies and Mythology in English. They just finished writing their own myths and are excited to share them with each other. In Science, they are learning about Electricity and how circuits work. They are becoming aware of the negative effects of drugs and alcohol in Health 9, which they recently started. They are working hard to learn about and solve equations with variables in Math and are playing a variety of games in gym. They have also recently switched PAA courses and the students are enthusiastic about their new courses.

Grade 9

The Grade 9’s came back from Christmas break refreshed and ready to learn. They have continued to learn about Norse and Indigenous myths in English and are working on developing their own myths. The students have shown an interest in ancient civilizations in Social and are learning about the evidence that archaeologists have uncovered over time. In Home Economics they are working on a recycling assignment and those in I.A. are working hard to finish up their projects before the end of the semester. They are continuing to learn about electricity in Science and work on their bands in Art. The students have also been learning about polynomials in Math class and have been having fun with floor hockey in Phys. Ed.

Grade 9

The Grade 9 class has been hard at work, making a final push towards the Christmas holidays. They have continued to study Norse and First Nations myths in English class. In Social they are just rapping up their unit on Societies and Worldview. They have just finished learning about Linear Equations and Graphing in Math. In Science, they have continued to learn about Atoms and Compounds and in Art they have been working hard on their bands. They have been working their way through “The Real Game” which has been teaching them about life after school. The students have continued to enjoy Home Ec. and IA where they have been working on their welding, small engines, and sewing skills. Lastly, they have just began their basketball unit in Phys. Ed.

Grade 9

November has been a busy month for the Grade 9’s! In math, they have been working with rational numbers. In English, the students have been learning about Norse and Indigenous Myths. They have starting creating bands in Art and have come up with some creative names. In Phys. Ed, they have recently started working on their basketball skills. They have been working their way through a real life simulation in Career Ed. They have continued to be busy in Home Ec. and I.A. as well. Finally, in Science, they have been working with Atoms and Elements.

Grade 9

The grade nines have been busy juggling school and extracurricular activities! In math, they are learning about square roots and surface area. We are currently working on our first ELA project: Create-a-Script. The students will then get a chance to perform or record and play it in front of the class. They relived their summer activities in Art class while working on their drawing abilities. In Phys. Ed, they are honing their
volleyball skills. In Careers, they are studying the path of entrepreneurs. The students were very excited to start Home Economics and IA as well. Finally, in Science, they are learning about Chemistry!
