Saber Football News

The Hanley Saber Football team had another exceptional season this fall finishing the year with an 8 win 1 loss record, losing in a barn-burner of a provincial semi-final game 74-64 to a talented Lemberg team. The Sabers would like to again thank the communities of Hanley, Dundurn and surrounding areas for the incredible support that was demonstrated throughout the season.

The team would like to congratulate our graduating players on their success this year and thank them for their contributions to the club over their years with the team. They are: Dion, Michael, John, Jae, Joel, Kody, and Kirk.

We would like to thank everyone who helped with the upgrades to the field this year – the completed clubhouse and new bleachers and scoreboard: The Saskatchewan Roughriders, James and Marie Mann, Mike Prosofsky, Kaleb Freeden, Ryan Grindheim, Derek Libke, Troy Haroldson, Elance Steel, Darice Carlson and the town of Hanley.

Also, a huge thank you to our parents who have volunteered and helped out wherever needed (and especially Lisa Ashdown for coordinating the concession booth)!!

SEE YOU ON THE FIELD IN THE FALL OF 2014!!

Saber Football News

The Saber Football team’s year ended on October 29th in Spiritwood with a close 63-59 loss in the Provincial Quarter Finals.

Spiritwood dominated the first half and led 43-20 at the break. The Sabers put a scare into the hometown crowd and thrilled the many Saber supporters who travelled to the game with a spirited comeback that fell only 4 points short. Alex led the touchdown parade with 3 and just under 300 yards in receiving. Cody, Connor, and Josh had 2 touchdowns each. It was a huge passing day for the offence with Josh throwing for 571 yards.

The defence, which had struggled in the first half against a much larger Spiritwood offence, came up with multiple big plays and stops to put the team in a position to win. Joe led the defence and Michael showing incredible speed and determination.

Overall it was a great year for a young Saber club who ended with a 4 win – 3 loss record. We would like to thank and congratulate our graduating players for their leadership and hard work: Tanner , Nicholas, Alex, Connor, Brayden, Joe, and Brayden
