We hope you have had a great start to 2016. Please accept our apologies for not getting this information out sooner. We have had to jump through a few more hoops than expected in planning this special trip and making it both as affordable as possible while also giving the students the most unique music experience they have had to this point in their careers.
We are extremely excited it will be the first time anyone in the division has been accepted to take part in the Prestigeous Canadian Rocky Mountain Festival and even more that it is the first time we will combine senior bands that will match the numbers of the top inner city school bands that also compete in this festival from across Canada and beyond. This year is the 25th Anniversary of the Festival and we are one of 100 bands that successfully auditioned. A further 50 schools were turned away.
The Festival takes place at the world renowned Banff Centre, one of the most stunning venues to perform on the planet. Students will perform a 20 minute concert which will then be adjudicated by their World class faculty and clinicians. There are also multiple instrument specific clinics and lectures on various facets of musicianship and concerts from the University of Manitoba Wind Orchestra and the internationally acclaimed New York Voices.
In addition to musical activities we will be travelling into the Rocky Mountains to take in some of the never ending natural attractions including a Glacier Walk and visit to Banff Hot Springs.
Please find attached the Tour itinerary and costs. We are very fortunate to be able to reduce the costs by over half for the students through assistance from the division and East and West Band Parents associations. There will also be several opportunities for students to fundraise for themselves to cover even more of the cost in the upcoming months. The cost of the Trip will be $300 which includes all activities, travel, Accommodation at the Banff International hotel and participation in the festival.
This is a huge opportunity and learning experience for all students and for the program itself and we want to do everything we can to ensure that everyone attends and we put on the best possible performance we are capable of.
It is important and we need to know final numbers before the February break to confirm with Hotels and the festival itself. Please contact Mr. Streisel, Mr. Ward or Mr. Martin to confirm attendance or if you have any questions.
Thank you again for your patience and support,
Adam Streisel AJ Ward Will Martin
