Hoping everyone has had a great summer. The 2017/18 School year is upon us we are excited for another year of music learning, making and appreciating!
We are delighted to welcome Ms. Thompson to come teach in Hanley and Dundurn. We congratulate Mr. Ward on his new position in the West Band program and say a sad farewell to Mr. Streisel who is moving into Saskatoon. Everyone will get the chance to meet Ms. Thompson on the first Division Hub Classes in Allan start on September 13th.
Music Classes resume in home schools on Thursday September 7th.
Next Wednesday is both the 2017/18 sign up/information night and the Band Parents AGM at Clavet School.
The Band Parents Association is looking for upwards of 3 volunteers for next year. Please contact Mr. Martin if you are interested in helping the program grow and can offer any assistance to the program.
4:30-6:30pm – Meet the Teacher, Sign up and rental information
6:15pm – Band Parent Association AGM
Both Mr. Martin, Mr. Ward and the Band Parents Association will be there to answer any questions about next year. Brett Graham from St.Johns music will also be in attendance to field any questions or set up rental contracts for instruments.
We are excited that all schools will be studying music in grade 5 and 6 next year. This will also change the division band format slightly. Starting from the fall the Intermedite and Senior Band will combine to create the East Winds.
All students grades 7-12 will only have one class per cycle in their home schools in addition to the bi-weekly rehearsals in Allan School. This will result in pull out time being reduced on average to just less than 2 pull out classes a week.
All division band students will also get the chance to choose from 4 other ensembles in addition to the East Winds and for students in grades 10-12 this will mean the option of gaining extra music credits of their choice.
Please read the above (attached) document explaining the changes.
The final Division Band rehearsal for the 2016/17 school year is already. It is very important that all intermediate/senior students attend to hand in music and also to talk about next years division rehearsal format and options.
We will be taking students to the Park and Allan Bowl to wrap up. Any student that wants to go bowling needs to bring $3 and contact Mr. Martin ASAP to confirm that they want to bowl.
