Message to VMS Parents / Guardians – October 16, 2020

Greetings Parents and Guardians of VMS Mustangs,

We thought we would take a minute to share with you some information regarding happenings at VMS.

First of all, we’d like to thank the students for returning to school, open to the new procedures and adapting like superstars. Our current population sits at 578. This is slightly down from our projected population, which was 596, as some students have opted for the e-Spirit Online program or to be home schooled.

Secondly, we’d like to share some information regarding students being sent home for having Covid-like symptoms. In the month of September we sent 22 students home and so far in October we have sent 6. We are pleasantly surprised at how few have demonstrated symptoms but recognize that parents are making the decision to keep kids home who aren’t feeling well and for this we all say thank you. In a typical year we ask that students not come because of the possibility of spreading germs related to colds or flus but as this is not a typical year we truly appreciate parent’s effort and assistance. It makes a huge difference for the health of the building as a whole.

Thirdly, we would like to thank students and parents for their involvement in our Parent/Teacher/Student conferences. We had 90% participation even though various methods were used to make contact. It’s always great to hear from parents and have them hear about the wonderful things that are happening at school each day.

Finally, we want to thank our staff for the flexibility and ingenuity they are implementing in order to make the school day both exciting and academically challenging. Numerous body breaks are being used to keep both body and brain moving as well as creative ways to present content within restricted classroom settings. We know that these methods are not forever but rather for now so thank you staff for making this time a good one for our Valley Manor Family.

Have a great weekend.
