Grade 11 News

So great to be back to school!!! Classes are in full swing. In math foundations, we have just written our first test on angle and parallel lines. In Physics, we are learning wonders and workings around us, as well as the math compo- nents of scientific notation, significant figures and metric conversion. We are one of the first Health Science classesin the province in which we will be studying medical ethics, the diagnosis and treatments of the human body, as well as how to support the health of ourselves. We also have a small Robotics class for the first time in Hanley School, in which we will be building circuits and robots. In ELA/History, we are working on an independent history project.

Grade 11 News

Grade 11’s are splitting their time between studying for finals and wakeboarding. Not a bad life! Hard to believe we will be going into our grade 12 year. We wish everyone a Warm, Fun and Fantastic Summer! See you all in the new school year!

Grade 11 News

It is a busy time of year as we continue to work hard and prepare for the end of our grade 11 year. In Chemistry, we are balancing equations and preparing experiments to demonstrate for the K/1’s. In Biology, we are examining the diversity of life. In Visual Arts, we con- tinue to decorate school doors, as well as interpret and create our own representation on types of art. In Media Studies, so we are watching the documentary “Thank You for Smoking” and studying subliminal messages. In PAA, we are researching and presenting world cuisines. In IA, we are building sheds. In

Work Placement, we are making scale replications of types of furniture. In Pre-Calculus, we are examining radical equations.

Grade 11 News

Here is a day in the life of the grade elevens. We begin with precalculas, in which we are fac- toring quadratic equations. Next comes biology, where we are talking about populations and starting our giving back projects.

We are preparing for our chemical compound exam in Chemistry. In Home Ec we are beginning our International Food projects and in IA, we are working on our CAD projects. In Media Studies, we are analyzing TV shows through the decades, while working on our movies. So that’s a day in Grade 11. We are anxiously waiting for summer, no wait spring!!

Grade 11 News

First week of semester 2 – done! In Work Placement Math, we are working on calculating slopes and in Pre-Calculus we are doing sequences and series. In PAA, we are learning about pastries and soon to be cake decorating. In IA, we are looking at the theory of building houses. In Chemistry, we are examining the functions of the Lab, including lab equipment and safety in the lab. In Biology, we are designing an art project to define biology. In Visual Arts, we are defining art without words. In Media Studies, we are learning to be an active audience. Have a great Feb break!

Grade 11 News

In grade 11, we finished our last unit in math and are using the remaining week to study for finals. Gym class is spent playing badminton and basketball. In English/History we finished reading “The Book Thief” and are currently working on our grandparent timeline assignment. In physics, we recently finished our unit on heat and are preparing for finals; the biology the class dissected crayfish and wrote an invertebrate exam. Finals are coming soon, and we’re all excited for next semester.

  • Return all textbooks/school materials on the day of the examination.

  • There are assigned study hall rooms for grades 10 to 12.
  • Students need to clean out their lockers and return all library books.
  • The first day of classes for the second semester will be Monday, February 4, 2013.

Grade 11 News

Christmas is coming, and this is the week of exams in the Grade 11 class. In biolo- gy, we are having an exam on the diversity of life and then….. an exam in physics on refraction. If it is not an exam, we are presenting our independent projects in Social Studies. After all that, we have time for reading, the book Thief, in ELA. Parabolas are where it’s at in math. Lastly we round it out with fun times in Phys Ed.

Grade 11

Winter is here and Christmas is right around the corner. Classes are busier than ever. In Foundations 20, we are learning about statistics. We have just begun the Diversity of Life Unit in Biology. In Physics, we are learning the laws of reflection in plane and curved mirrors. We are having a blast playing sports, and doing yoga, in Gym. In English and Social Studies, we are presenting projects on the history of something we are interested in. We also worked together to plan the schools Remembrance Day ceremony.

Grade 11

These are busy days in the grade eleven’s school life. The theme for gym is skills- volleyball, golf, football and beginning basketball. In math class, we have been working on sine and cosine laws, as well as, acute trigonometry. In biology, we have been studying ecological organizations such as food chains and habitats. We have been learning about the first World War and the poems written by the soldiers. In physics we are learning about the characteristics of waves. Busy times!!!!
