December Newsletter

Hello HBE families:

I hope that everyone is well, and your educational pursuits are coming along. The cold weather has us spending more time indoors which is a good chance to get some letters to Santa or grandparents and some holiday stories written.  Remember to save some of your work samples so you can see the progress you have made in June. The Ministry of Education requires you to keep evidence of each child’s learning for a minimum of 2 years, you don’t need to keep everything just a few samples/pictures/ test for evidence. After 2 years you may recycle work samples, tests etc. if you wish.

HBE Funding; The funding forms have all been organized and sent into the accounting department, the funding $ will be sent out to HBE families at the end of January 2023. Families are not required to provide receipts for the educational materials they purchase with this funding.

Programs: Some parents have inquired about other educational programming besides Home based education that the PSSD offers.

These are the options:

  1. Students may return to the local school during the school year
  2. We offer a program called “learning@home” for grades K-8. Students regularly connect with the teacher for guidance, but their work is self-paced and managed by individual family schedules. The teacher provides the grade appropriate lesson and  the assessments. Parents support the learning but don’t have to find the curriculum.
  3. Spirit elearning is our online school. The next intake time is January 9th for online classes. Credit classes for grades 10-12

If you are interested in either of these options, please connect with me for more information and the next steps.          lorraine.fitzgerald@spiritsd.ca

Grade 10 Pathways:

Students that are in grade 9 may want to consider the pathway they wish to take for their educational journey and possible post secondary options.

This graphic is a quick look at the pathways if you are not attending your local school.
