August 29th – September 2nd

Does it make it any easier to get back into the routine? I’m not sure about that. I’d like to introduce, On the Horizon, my weekly blog where I try to provide some relevant and current learning links, a couple of tid-bits of information, and a highlight of what is going on around the school in the upcoming week. It is my hope that Chris’ Monday message coupled with On the Horizon will help keep everyone informed about what is going on at school.

I need to start by saying I have been humbled by the outpouring of support and the way everyone has gone out of their way to make me feel welcome at Waldheim School. I am so excited about the year ahead and the learning journey we will be on together, and it all officially begins tomorrow!

The first learning link I’m including today is all about opening and closing routines. It is targeted towards new teachers, however I’ve always found these are terrific reminders. In particular I find the closing routines to be the area where I always struggle, gathering that feedback for tomorrows lesson. Have a read, see if anything speaks to you.

The second learning link is from George Couros, an author and speaker who talks about the importance of innovation in education. I like this particular post because it reminds us who is the most important person in the room each day. Regardless of the environment or the technology, it is what you bring that makes the learning so special.

Finally I wanted to include a short video you’ve likely seen, but if not, I hope you enjoy it. In the video, Drew Dudley talks about how we each can have a huge impact on those around us and how important it is to thank those who have touched our lives. I hope you enjoy it.

I know Chris has sent out some information already, so I hope you don’t feel too bombarded!
