Grade 6 News

It has been a great start to the school year in the grade 6 room. In ELA our beginning plans are grammar, writing skills, spelling, sentence structure and reading the Thief Lord as a class. In math we are working on a unit about whole numbers. In Social Studies we are looking around the world as well as close to home studying the interactions and interdependence of nations. In Science we are looking beyond into our Solar System. During Phys. Ed. class, we are working on skill development in soccer, football, volleyball and group games. We are being very creative with drawing and using a variety of mediums in art. We are excited and looking forward to a great year!

Grade 4 & 5 News

We are back! I hope everyone had a fantastic summer and is ready to jump into a new year of school! Our class has been a bit chaotic lately with the tables we ordered not in yet, but by Monday we will back to a normal routine and will be so lucky to have the opportunity to have tables rather than desks in our classroom! We will be focusing on cooperative learning, and the tables are sure to enhance this for us! We will be covering many exciting topics this year and I can’t wait to get to know my old and new students even better! Looking forward to another great year!

Grade 2 & 3 News

We are learning about all kinds of things already! Here’s just some of the things we have been learning about: fairy tales, the human body, communities, plants, and patterns. We are having a great September!

Kindergarten & Grade 1 News

We’ve had an AWESOME start to the year in the K/1 room! I am so impressed with these kids and how quickly they are picking up on class- room procedures and getting along as a group! We are starting to get into things a bit. The Grade 1s have start- ed their patterning unit in math and practicing sentence writing in Daily Language. The Ks are taking part in some math pre-testing individually with me and soon we will begin our patterning unit. During play the students built a giant castle out of cardboard, drawbridge and all! They are having a blast parading in and out of it as princesses, queens, palace guard dogs, and knights! In Grade 1 Social Studies we are learning about different kinds of families and in Virtues we are discussing the power of our words and how they can make people feel good or bad. The Kindergartens have started Animated Literacy with Mrs. McGregor. Information about this will be sent home in the next week. Watch out for a note about our Medieval Feast which will be happening in early October. It was great to see all of the families at the pancake breakfast!

Grade 12 News

Grade 12 is coming to an end it seems to have flown by. Grad was a success and something we will remember for years to come. Thanks to Mrs. Prakash for all the hard work you put into this year’s festivities. Our classes are winding down and we are preparing for finals. In English, we have just finished reading Hamlet and writing our Twitter accounts. Biology has taught us our many body systems and how they work. In Physics, we just completed our last unit and we are now preparing for the Departmental Exam. In Calculus, we just completed a self-taught chapter. In Phys Ed, we wrapped up our last fitness test. We would like to give a special thank you to our teachers and parents for putting up with us these past years.

Grade 11 News

Hard to believe we are at the end of another school year! All that is left is our final exams, which begin on Friday, June 22. We wish everyone a Warm, Fun and Fantastic Summer! See you all in the new school year!

Grade 10 News

Well, the grade 10’s are super excited and super stressed as their second set of final exams comes hurtling towards them with the momentum of a freight train – one which left Cleveland at 4:00 pm travelling at 85 mph (their math final is on Friday the 22nd ). Students are busy getting in last minute assignments, writing exams and making up study notes as they prepare. Shoes fly as the 12 minute fitness test run is crammed in between finishing up CAD drawings and trying to figure out exactly which country was involved in the French Revolution. Shakespeare movies are watched more at this time of year than any other. And, after it’s all done, the eagerly anticipated – yet always dreaded – end of the year water-fight and baseball tournament looms! Please study responsibly.

Grade 9 News

The Grade Nine Canoe trip was an incredible experi- ence for us all. Although the forecast was ominous, we headed into Canada’s great north. Our coolers were full of junk food, our bus was filled with tarps and our hearts were filled with anticipation. The weather was perfect as the pouring rain held off until the last hour of our quest. Being in the middle of the lake in the pouring rain was amazing.

When we weren’t on the lake, we sat around blazing fires, played crazy games and stayed up well past our regular bedtimes just like big kids. Special thanks to Mr. Graham and Mr. Anderson for planning the trip. Thanks also to the parent chaperones who brought the perfect attitude of work, rest and play. And last but certainly not least, hail to the bus driver, Harold, who maneuvered us safely home under tornado filled skies.

This is the last newsletter of the year. It’s been great from start to finish. On behalf of myself, Mr. Graham, thanks to the students for a memorable year.

Grade 7 News

Wow! Our year has simply flown by! The end of the year for Grade 7 students has been busy. We have been wrapping up units in all of our core content areas. We will be ending the year by finishing up with poetry in ELA, geometry in math, First Nations Culture in Social, and the Earth’s crust in science. On Friday, June 15th, our class ventured out to the Blue Mountain Outdoor Adventure Centre. We took part in team building activities/challenges, zip line and high ropes courses. I have to say I  am very proud of all of the students for challenging themselves in all the tasks. Furthermore, our chaperones were outstanding as well! Thank you to all of our chaperones: Charlotte Hawes, Julie Bellina, Kevin Lester, Renee Adams, Lyanne Leuschen, Tim and Lacey Schroeder, and Char Seymour.

On June 22, our class will be going to the home of Charlotte Hawes, where she will provide our crew with lunch, with activities to follow. Also, Julie and Jason Bellina have offered to bring the class lunch on the final day of classes (June 27). Thanks so much! We appreciate it!

In closing, I would like to thank the Grade 7 class of 2011-2012 for a wonderful year. The positive personality, strong work ethic, and fabulous sense of humour demonstrated by each person were what made the year an absolute joy. Thank you to all the parents for their support and involvement throughout the year. Finally, I wish everyone a wonderful and safe summer!
