Cold Weather Policy

Indoor/Outdoor Recess:  please send your students with proper winter attire anticipating outdoor recesses.  Students may have a full recess, a shortened recess or an indoor recess.  If students are staying indoors it is expected that they remain in their classroom, partaking in a quiet activity.  Decisions on indoor/outdoor recesses are made at the school level and are predicated on a variety of things including:

• temperature
• temperature + wind chill
• precipitation
• other factors that may put students at risk

Our school follows the Environment Canada Weather Website. When the combined temp and wind chill is -30 or colder, students will remain indoors for recess. If the temperature is between -25 and -29 we will try to head outside for a shortened recess body break, dependent on conditions.

Busing:  Buses do not run if the combined temperature/wind chill factors result in a reading of -40 degrees Celsius or below at 6:00 a.m. If conditions improve or temperature warms up for in the afternoon, busses may run at the end of the day. PSSD will update their website at 6:00 a.m. and also at 12:30 p.m. if busses are to run at the end of the day.
