In accordance with Ministry Guidelines, students at Valley Manor School shall not use personal electronic devices during the school day.
- Personal electronic devices include, but are not limited to: cell phones, smartphones, tablets, computers, and portable video game systems.
- School day: Is inclusive of any time from arrival at school until dismissal. This includes recess and lunch hours.
- Personal electronic devices owned by students must be turned off or put in silent mode and stored out of view during all times during the school day or school sponsored activities. It is recommended that students do not bring these devices to school.
- Personal electronic devices, owned by students or Valley Manor School, shall not be used in areas where there is an increased expectation of privacy (washrooms, changing rooms, etc.)
- Exemptions may be approved by the school administration when the device is required for a specific medical restriction or limitation. This requires a completed Physician Report.
- Exemptions may be approved by the school administration when the device is required for a specific learning adaptation. Examples may include language translation software or voice to text software on a personal electronic device.
- Prohibited use of personal devices owned by students or property of Valley Manor School, at school events and during school activities include, but are not limited to:
- Use that violates federal or provincial law
- Theft of resources, including electronic data theft.
- Creating, displaying, storing or sending fraudulent, harassing, sexually explicit, profane, obscene, intimidating, defamatory or otherwise inappropriate or unlawful materials.
- Cyber-bullying or bullying by electronic means.
- Copying, downloading, transferring, renaming, adding or deleting information protected under copywrite law.
- Capturing and sharing images, video, and audio recording of a person or persons without consent of the individual.
- Valley Manor School is not responsible for students’ personal electronic devices in the event or loss, damage, or theft.
- Failing to meet the expectations or use of personal electronic devices will result in following the discipline procedure as described in our student handbook.
- The use of personal electronic devices during school sponsored extra-curricular activities will be at the discretion of the supervisor.
