Grade 7 News

Another year has begun and the adventure is upon us! It has been wonderful to see so many familiar faces and to meet new people. Our class this year is made up of 25 amazing students! They are hard working, kind and funny. We are currently exploring sustainability in ELA, whole numbers review and pre-algebra substitution in math, and basic mapping skills in Social Studies.

I am currently planning our first field trip of the year. In early October, the Grade 7s will be venturing to the city to swim and bowl as part of our team building goal for the year. We will be doing some fundraising to help offset the cost of the trip. Please keep your eyes peeled for more information about the trip and fundraising in the weeks to come.

We have an intern working with us this term. Her name is Nicole Andre and she has already been busy

building relationships, coaching, and teaching the Grade 7 ELA. We are both excited about this term and the successes we are sure to see. As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact one of us at the school (306-544-2511). We can also be reached via email: Nicole.Bain@spiritsd.ca or Nicole.Andre@spiritsd.ca.

Grade 7 News

The beginning of the year has been a busy one! We have been getting to know every- one and getting settled. We are slowly settling into a routine and are beginning to get busy with our courses. The girls and boys are split for the core content classes (social, science, math and ELA), but remain together for the rest of their classes. In ELA, the girls have been reviewing their basic grammar skills before we begin our first thematic unit on “Science Fiction”. The boys have begun a novel study of Escape from Home. In social, both groups have been reviewing their geographical skills. In science, the groups are working on research skills and the “Earth’s Crust and Resources”. Math has all the students polishing their basic operational facts and applications. It is important to ensure a strong foundation before we begin building new concepts! So far, I have truly enjoyed the Grade 7s! I look forward to a successful, prosperous, and entertaining few months. Should you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me by email or phone (544-2511).

Grade 7 News

Wow! Our year has simply flown by! The end of the year for Grade 7 students has been busy. We have been wrapping up units in all of our core content areas. We will be ending the year by finishing up with poetry in ELA, geometry in math, First Nations Culture in Social, and the Earth’s crust in science. On Friday, June 15th, our class ventured out to the Blue Mountain Outdoor Adventure Centre. We took part in team building activities/challenges, zip line and high ropes courses. I have to say I  am very proud of all of the students for challenging themselves in all the tasks. Furthermore, our chaperones were outstanding as well! Thank you to all of our chaperones: Charlotte Hawes, Julie Bellina, Kevin Lester, Renee Adams, Lyanne Leuschen, Tim and Lacey Schroeder, and Char Seymour.

On June 22, our class will be going to the home of Charlotte Hawes, where she will provide our crew with lunch, with activities to follow. Also, Julie and Jason Bellina have offered to bring the class lunch on the final day of classes (June 27). Thanks so much! We appreciate it!

In closing, I would like to thank the Grade 7 class of 2011-2012 for a wonderful year. The positive personality, strong work ethic, and fabulous sense of humour demonstrated by each person were what made the year an absolute joy. Thank you to all the parents for their support and involvement throughout the year. Finally, I wish everyone a wonderful and safe summer!
