Welcome back everyone. We hope you had an exciting and fun filled Summer. The school was abuzz today as we welcomed both old and new, staff and students to the VMS family. Our current school population has surpassed the 700 mark and there are certainly no signs of slowing down. You’ll notice the construction continuing on the south end of the school. The current plan is to have the 4 classrooms finished by Halloween (fingers crossed).
Mr Cox (Vice Principal) and I, Garth Harrison (Principal) participated in the ALS Ice Bucket challenge today in front of the entire student body. It was a chilly way to start the year but a truly worthwhile cause. Donations supporting our efforts can be made at the school office until Friday.
We hope the day went well for both you and your child and that we all have a positive school year.
Just to let everyone one know that there is a Strawberry Jam Fest/Garden Market/Pancake breakfast going on at the curling rink from 9-11 am this morning.
The MHS Voyager Club is running the pancake breakfast and proceeds will be going towards their trip.
VMS Healthy Activities Summer Choices Challenge
As part of our theme of Healthy Mind/Healthy Body/Healthy World we are asking students and their families to accept the challenge of returning to school with some evidence of a healthy activity they took part in this summer. It may be pictures of swimming at the beach or playing in the park. It could be photos of walking with Grandma or playing horseshoes with crazy Uncle Lou. It also may be a shell from a stroll on the beach, a pamphlet from the museum or a bookmark from a great book you read. If YOU see it as a healthy activity, so will we and we want to share it with the rest of the VMS family. Items and Photos will be displayed in the front showcase. Each child that brings in a summer memento will be entered into some prize draws awarding students ‘Healthy’ prizes for making healthy choices over the Summer months.
