Numbers up to 20

When we teach about the numbers to 20 our goals are to have your child:

  • count forwards from 0 to 20
  • count backwards from 20 to 0
  • print numbers 0 to 20 (see example of correct number formations):

  • recognize arrangements of 1-10: (dominoes, dice, ten frames)
  • show numbers up to 20 using objects
  • build a set with “more”, “less”, or “as many as” a given set
  • compare sets using “more”, “less”, and “as many as”
  • split a number into 2 parts a variety of ways

Numbers to 100

In teaching numbers to 100 our goals are to have your child:

  • count forward by 1’s from 0 to 100
  • count by 5’s and 10’s from 0 to 100
  • count by 2’s from 0 to 20
  • count forward and backwards by 1 starting at any given number (23, 24, 25, 26) or (76, 75, 74, 73)
  • identify numbers to 100
  • print numbers 0 to 100 correctly
  • count sets of objects by making groups of 2’s, 5’s, 10’s and counting on if there are extras
